COMPLETE LISTING OF FALL 2014 CACC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAMS

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (January 28, 2015) – Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Commissioner Dan Mara announced on Wednesday that a record 218 student-athletes were named to the Fall 2014 All-Academic Teams for the league’s six fall championship sports, including men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s tennis, and volleyball.

The 218 student-athletes established a new high in conference history, topping the old mark of 189, which was set in 2011.

Women’s soccer led the six championship sports with 70 honorees, while men’s soccer and volleyball followed with 39 each. Women’s cross country had 30 honorees, and men’s cross country and women’s tennis totaled 20 each.

Sixty-two (62) of the student-athletes were placed on the Fall All-Academic Team for the second time in their career, while 36 honorees were recognized for the third time.

Thirteen (13) student-athletes named to the Fall All-Academic Teams recorded perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point averages, including Sarabeth Oppermann (Wilmington University, women’s cross country); Sjoerd Blankenstein (Caldwell University, men’s soccer); Annalyse Culp (Chestnut Hill College, women’s soccer); Christie Callandrillo (Felician College, women’s soccer); Sienna Smith (Holy Family University, women’s soccer); Koumudi Thirunagaru (Caldwell University, women’s tennis); Nicole Stuhr (Concordia College, women’s tennis); Nina Sengl (Goldey-Beacom College, women’s tennis);  Casey Borish (Holy Family University, women’s tennis); Anna Slomowitz (Philadelphia University, women’s tennis); Laura Tamas (Holy Family University, volleyball); Michele Chai (Philadelphia University, volleyball); Allison Briley (Wilmington University, volleyball).

Thirty-five (35) of the student-athletes on the All-Academic Teams also were named to their respective All-Conference teams during the fall, including a trio who were named athlete of the year. Concordia men’s soccer standout Ovan Oakley was named to the All-Academic Team after he was named the league’s player of the year in the sport while ranking second in goals (15) and points (34). Philadelphia U. men’s cross country star Curran Kneebone earned all-academic status following him winning the CACC individual championship race in November. PhilaU’s Emilie Barton won the women’s cross country individual championship, and just like Kneebone, was placed on the All-Academic Team for her exemplary work in the classroom.

In order to be named to the CACC Fall All-Academic Team, recipients must have participated in a CACC Championship sport in the fall. They must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have been a student-athlete at their current school for at least two semesters, and achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher through the spring semester of 2014.

The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference is an NCAA Division II Conference composed of 14 institutions in Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
