CALDWELL, N.J. (October 4, 2018) -- The Caldwell University Athletics Department has partnered with Caldwell's Counseling Services and the Office of Student Life for an effort to raise awareness of mental health wellness during the 2018-19 school year.

"Caldwell University's Counseling Services is very pleased to partner with the Athletic Department on its CUsBreakTheStigma Campaign," said Robin Davenport, executive director of the Caldwell Counseling Services. "We recognize the importance of student-athletes' not only taking great care in promoting their physical health, but also in addressing their mental health needs.  Taking care of the "whole person" is vital to our student-athletes' success in their sport, academics and wider lives."

This fall, the Athletics Department established the Caldwell University Breaks Stigma Committee (C.U.B.S.), which is comprised of student-athletes from various teams who have volunteered their time to bring awareness about mental health concerns to student-athletes. C.U.B.S. message is, "it's okay to not be okay," and to stress that mental health is just as important as physical health.

"We are very excited to initiate a Mental Health & Wellness Campaign here at Caldwell, which will focus on educating and bringing awareness to our student-athletes and staff," said Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletic Mark A. Corino. "With the help of our campus partners, we will be able to create an environment that supports the mental and physical well-being of our student-athletes. In addition, we will provide educational opportunities to normalize and destigmatize the process of utilizing available resources."

The hashtag #CUsBreakTheStigma will be used to promote upcoming events throughout the school year. The department will also host a mental health guest speaker for all Caldwell student-athletes in the fall semester. In addition, a video featuring student-athletes will be created as part of this campaign.

Caldwell Athletics has also launched a "Green Games" initiative for selected home contests during the 2018-19 year. Student-athletes will be issued green t-shirts that they will wear during the green games this year.
