WASHINGTON, DC – The Bears men's basketball team continued their red-hot play and kept their record unblemished with an, 84-80 victory over the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) Saturday afternoon. The non-conference game in the nation's capitol improved Bloomfield's record to 4-0 on the year while the Firebirds dropped to 1-3 in 2017.
The Bears torched the net in the opening half, shooting 51.6 percent from the field including a season-high 9-of-12 (75.0 percent) from beyond the arc and a perfect, 11-of-11 from the free throw line. Senior,
Nick Davidson (Lumberton, NJ) led the way at the break with 18 points (6-of-7 fg, 3-of-4 3-pt, 3-of-3 FT) and Marcus Fleming (Linden, NJ) added 12 points, 7 boards and 3 assists as the visitors held a 52-48 lead heading into the locker room.
Bloomfield spotted UDC the first ten points of the second half and fell behind, 58-52 but the East Region's 4
th ranked team remained composed and rallied to secure their fourth-straight regional win. Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Co-Player of the Week, Keith Washington (Philadelphia, PA) came on strong in the final frame and along with
Safee Abdus-Sabur (Newark, NJ) the tandem combined for 33 points to keep the Bears in front and soaring over UDC.
After defeating the Firebirds, the Bears will feast on some turkey before returning back to the court Thanksgiving weekend for their fifth-straight regional battle when the Purple Knights of Bridgeport come to town.
