Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

2ND HALF PLAY RAISES BEARS OVER CONCORDIA IN, 88-70 VICTORY IN THE DEN

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – In a second-straight game of the classic, 'tale of two halves' saga, the Bears men's basketball team put up a fiery 2nd half display to secure an, 88-70 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over Concordia College. The Tuesday evening showdown in 'The Den' upped Bloomfield's overall record to 17-4 and 12-1 in conference play.

The win over the Clippers (8-14, 2-11 CACC) also cemented Bloomfield's 10th consecutive playoff birth into the league's post-season tournament.

The Bears offensive game plan across the last two games has been share the ball as yet again five Bloomfield players finished in double-figures. The East Region's 6th ranked team saw their season scoring leader, Nick Davidson (Lumberton, NJ) drop a game-high 18 points. Junior, Safee Abdus-Sabur (West Orange, NJ) continued to shine in his newfound role in the starting rotation for the Bears with 15 points.

Keith Washington (Philadelphia, Pa) added in 13 points across a limited 16 minutes and co-captain, Rakwan Kelly (Newark, NJ) chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds. Freshman, Tariq McKenith (Newark, NJ) had his best game in a Bloomfield uniform, netting 10 points on a perfect, 4-for-4 night from the floor including 2-of-2 from long range.

The opening half ended in a stalemate with both teams deadlocked at 37-37 and only Washington in double-digits, leading all scorers with 10 points. Head Coach, Gerald Holmes in his 16th season has perfected his halftime rallying speech that always seems to inspire better 2nd half play from his squads.

The Bears came out of the locker room with an unbridled intensity in their eyes and connected on four consecutive 3-pointers to start the second period, capped by a break-a-way dunk by co-captain Davidson. The Clippers quickly found themselves in a 7-point hole (51-44) in less than five minutes played in the frame. That deficit grew to, 71-51 after the home team carved out a 20-7 run. Bloomfield shot a season-high, 52.2 percent from the field and closed the door on Concordia's comeback hopes.

The Bloomfield express hits the road for their next match up with Wilmington University on Saturday. The Wildcats gear up to face the Bears in CACC action with a scheduled 3:00 pm start time.
