Miller Tallies 16 Saves in Firebirds 17-7 Defeat to Chestnut Hill

LAFAYETTE HILL, PA- The University of the District of Columbia's men's lacrosse team fell to Chestnut Hill 17-7 in their second game of the season, Wednesday night at Victory Field #1.

Goalkeeper Matthew Miller made a game-high 16 saves and six Firebirds made their way onto the scoreboard with Zander Torres leading the way with two goals and a game-high three caused-turnovers. Carnell Lofton Jr. also led the Firebirds with five ground balls. 

The Firebirds struck first, taking the early lead with Torres finishing a feed from Jacob Saunders. Jordan Schemm, Joseph Cote, and Torres went on to each net a goal to give UDC the 4-3 lead going into the second quarter. 

The second and third quarters had the visiting Firebirds in a drought as they were outshot 28-10 and outscored 12-0. A fourth-quarter rally, saw Saunders, Eric Boco, and Julian Schemm make their way on the scoreboard but UDC couldn't dig their way out of the 11 point deficit created by the Griffins in the first three quarters.

UDC (0-2) is off for the next two weeks and will host their first home game of the season on the 16th against Caldwell University on the E.B Henderson Sports Complex Field. The tip-off is set for 2:00 pm and will be live-streamed on the ECC network.
