BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Junior
Shaunavon DeSouza (Montego Bay, Jamaica) scored the second goal of the afternoon, as the Bloomfield College men's soccer team blanked Dowling College, 2-0, Saturday afternoon for their first victory of the 2015 campaign. With the win, the Bears stand at 1-2-1 overall, while Dowling stumbles to 0-3-0 in action this season.
Bloomfield jumped on the board in the 24
th minute when DeSouza was fouled inside the box setting up a penalty kick for senior captain,
Marin Jonjic (Podstrana, Croatia) who beat the Golden Lions keeper with a ball to the lower-right corner of the net. The Bears held their 1-0 lead for the rest of the period with junior goalkeeper,
Wilson Cisneros (Bronx, N.Y.) turning away the visitors' offense.
The Bears doubled their lead at 78:26 when DeSouza dribbled the ball over Dowling goalkeeper Scott Flores (Commack, N.Y.) on the right side and then buried the ball into the left side of the net before the Golden Lions' defenders could recover. Senior
Shacquille Brown (Springfield, St. Thomas) recorded the assist on the brilliantly angled goal and Bloomfield secured the shutout win.
Cisneros and Flores each made three saves on the afternoon, as the Bears held a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal.
The Bears will continue their homestand when they host crosstown rival Felician College under the lights at Foley Field on Wednesday evening. Bloomfield will look to get their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory as they face the Golden Falcons at 7:00pm.
