Clermont, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team split a pair of games in Florida on Tuesday to make its season record 3-6 so far in 2023, as the Purple Knights opened the day with a 10-8 win over Gannon University and closed things out in the afternoon with a 7-3 loss against Ohio's, University of Findlay.
In Tuesday's opener, the Purple Knights scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to grab the 10-8 victory over Gannon.
Gabby Simms (Grad., Phoenixville, Pa.) continued her fine start to the season at the plate by going 3-for-4 versus the Knights.
Senior Taylor Yates (Elk Grove, Calif.) had two hits and drove in four for the winners, and classmates Missy Daigneault (Rensselear, N.Y.) and Meg McFarland (Monroe, Conn.) also had two base knocks for UB. Daihneault had two runs batted in Tuesday's opening win.
Sophomore Erin Lifrieri (Seymour, Conn.) earned the win in the pitching circle against Gannon working two innings of scoreless relief.
Against Findlay to close of the day, Gabby Simms and Madison D'Amato (Warwick, R.I.) had runs batted in.
The Oiler playing as the home team broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the fourth win a single run and then added three insurance runs in the sixth on their way to the win.
After taking Wednesday off in the Sunshine State, the Purple Knights will return to action on Thursday against two of the best teams in the nation facing number 18 Washburn to open the day and then finishing off play versus the number one ranked team in NCAA Division II softball Rogers State.
