Mendez rakes in baseball's 11-4 win over Bloomfield
BOCA RATON, Florida – The American International College baseball team scored 11 runs in five of their eight innings at the plate to beat Bloomfield 11-4 on Thursday, March 10.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After two and a half innings of scoreless play, the Yellow Jackets put up the first three runs of the game. Senior Anthony Clark led the inning off with a hit by pitch. Senior Angel Mendez singled to right field and advanced to second as the Bears tried to get Clark going to third. After an out senior Brandon Gaul singled to right which allowed Clark to score. With the bases loaded, rookie Kiernan Caffery singled to right and Mendez touched home, giving AIC the 2-0 lead. The final run of the inning came when junior Chad Lavelle drew a walk and Gaul scored.
- In the next AIC half-inning, Mendez was on second after a double and Clark on third when junior Michael Cruz had a no-out two-RBI single to center.
- In the sixth, Caffery drew four balls to open AIC's offensive frame. Lavelle took a pitch off the body gave AIC runners on first and second. A 4-3 double play put the Yellow Jackets with a runner on third with two outs. Clark doubled to left as Caffrey scored followed by Clark touching home on an error by the shortstop on a ball put in play by Mendez.
- Senior Mason St. Pierre rolled through six innings of play and allowed just two hits.
- In the top of the seventh, the Bears put a pair of runs on the board on three hits.
- AIC answered with two of their own on a two-run home run off the bat of Mendez to left.
- The Yellow Jackets kept rolling in their frame of the eighth. Sophomore Cameron Fitzgerald singled and then stole second before Caffrey walked. Lavelle singled to the right to load the bases. With two outs Mendez put a ball in the perfect position as he reached on a single to short. During an at-bat by Cruz, all runners moved up a base on a wild pitch as AIC took the 11-2 lead.
- The Bears scored twice in the ninth but senior Jay Chiappetta was able to get Lopez to ground out to Mendez to end the game.
