BEARS SOAR IN 3-2 COMEBACK VICTORY OVER CACC NORTH DIVISION EAGLES

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Bloomfield College volleyball team fell behind two sets to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division leading Eagles of Post University Friday night and came soaring back as the Bears won three straight sets to take the match 3-2. The win pulled Bloomfield to within one game of the division leaders and improved their overall record to 20-5 while posting a 13-4 CACC mark. The setback dropped the Eagles to 21-9 on the season and 14-4 in league action.

Freshman outside Kali Viles (McKinney, T.X.) recorded a career-high, 18 kills and sophomore Samantha Rios (Juncos, P.R.) added a match-high with 31 digs, to help the Bears snag the final three sets and steal one at home from the visiting Eagles, 24-26, 24-26, 26-24, 25-21, 15-11. The key victory snapped a Post six-game winning streak.

Post came out on a mission to prove why they were #1 in the CACC North and claimed the opening two sets by edging out the Bears during the closing moments of each. The teams were evenly matched as they both committed 17 errors across Sets 1 and 2 while the home team posted 28 kills to the Eagles 27.

Bloomfield turned the tables in the pivotal third set as they regained confidence and broke a 23-23 tie to close out the set on a 3-1 run. Opportunity struck again in the fourth set as the Bears jumped ahead 4-0 early. Post closed the gap to within one (21-22) before the home team reeled off three straight points, locking the heated match at two sets apiece.

The fifth set was a struggle for the Eagles as Bloomfield used the momentum to swing out to a 5-1 lead. There was little the visitors could do as a service error set up Valerie Bermudez (San Juan, P.R.) for the game-winning kill.

Bermudez finished the night with 16 kills and 13 digs while senior Diannmarie Rivera (Trujillo Alto, P.R.) also tallied 13 digs but added 14 kills for the Bears. Junior middle, Nayade Paulino (Paterson, N.J.) had a monstrous night, registering 13 blocks including 10 solos. Edmarie Freytes (San Juan, P.R.) fed Bloomfield's offense recording a season-high 32 assists and Jacquelyn Madlock (Alta Loma, Calif.) chipped in 18 assists of her own.

The Bears return to action Tuesday, traveling to Nyack College in another important CACC league matchup with just two regular-season games remaining.
