BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield College men's basketball team led nearly coast-to-coast in a New Year's Eve, 90-78 victory over Felician University. The Sunday afternoon Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match-up in 'The Den' featured a balanced Bears attack with Marcus Fleming (Linden, NJ) leading the way with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field. The senior tri-captain found support from four other Bloomfield (9-3, 4-0 CACC) teammates who scored in double-figures during the afternoon's contest. The tough loss dropped the Golden Falcons to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in league play.
 
Bloomfield couldn't miss in the opening half as almost every-other shot went in the bucket as the home team enjoyed a 55.6 shooting percentage (20-36) from the field during the first 20 minutes of play.  Felician scored the first layup of the game and the Bears took over from there and clawed out a 19-2 run to take command. The Golden Falcons hit a buzzer-beater shot to head into intermission down, 49-34 after trailing by as-many-as 23 with just under seven minutes to play.
 
The mixed-capacity crowd at the 'The Den' witnessed Felician cut their deficit to seven points several times in the second half, only to watch Bloomfield calmly knocked down timely shots to quell the visitors comeback attempts. The Bears floor general netted 10 of his 19 points in the final period to help close the door on the Golden Falcons.
 
Fleming saw his fellow captains, Nick Davidson (Lumberton, NJ) and Rakwan Kelly (Newark, NJ) each pour in 14 points with Davidson coming off the bench to dish out 5 assists as well. Safee Abdus-Sabur (Newark, NJ) excelled in his first start of 2017, chipping in 13 points and 5 boards while senior Ignacio Diez (Madrid, Spain) added 10 points and 8 rebounds during the #BearsWin .
 
Bloomfield will continue the bulk of their CACC schedule with a trip to Nyack College on Wednesday. The Bears look to battle with the Warriors at 7:30 pm. Happy New Year from Bloomfield College Athletics.
