Box Score

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose had 10 players figure in the scoring column and never trailed in a 75-63 victory versus Bloomfield in its home opener this afternoon at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

Junior center Mariah Lesure buried eight of her nine field goals on the way to a career-high 26 points to lead the Golden Knights (2-2). Senior guard Desiree Simmons finished with 11 points and seven rebounds, while junior guard Gabie Polce added 10 points.

Senior guard Ivettis Castro had 15 points, while senior forward Nakaida Thomas and sophomore guard Ariel Wilson scored 12 and 11 respectively to pace Bloomfield.

The Golden Knights (2-2) excelled at both ends of the floor throughout the opening 20 minutes. They shot 59.1 percent (13-for-22) from the field and limited the Deacons (2-2) to a 23.5 percent (8-for-34) effort to take a 35-28 halftime lead.

Bloomfield managed to get to within three, 43-40, with five minutes gone in the second period, before Saint Rose took off on a 12-4 spurt to boost its advantage to 11, 55-44, with 9:43 showing on the clock. Junior guard Jamie Hutcheson ignited the jaunt with a 3-pointer and sophomore forward Sarah Illingworth drained a jumper to cap it.

The Deacons cut their deficit to six, 58-52, three minutes later, but a pair of Lesure free throws pushed the Saint Rose advantage back to eight, 60-52. Lesure then converted a layup with 2:53 left that made it a 10 point affair and all but sealed the Saint Rose victory.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are back home this Wednesday, November 20, when Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace visits for a 5:30 pm start as part of a league doubleheader. Bloomfield on the other hand is off until next Saturday, November 23, when the Deacons entertain LIU Post at 1:00 pm.
