BLOOMFIELD NJ – Bloomfield College softball entered the opening round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tournament against Wilmington University (WilmU) Thursday morning and suffered a, 4-1 loss at the claws of the Wildcats. The Bears, with the #7 seed entering post-season play fell to 13-29 on the year with the setback while WilmU, boasting the #2 seed improved to 32-17 after the victory.
The Bears still have life in the double-elimination tournament and await their opponent, either #3 seeded Caldwell University or the #6 seed, Dominican College. The. 2
nd game of the day for Bloomfield is set for a 2:00 pm start.
Senior pitcher,
Taylor Galyean (Cottonwood, CA) got the start in the circle for the Bears and gave up all four Wildcat runs, only three of them earned. The right-hander went five full innings, striking out 1 for her record-setting 127th strikeout of the season. Wilmington took the lead in the bottom half of the first inning and never looked back, belting a solo homerun and then a single to centerfield that scored a run.
Bloomfield's lone run came in the 6
th inning after
Sierra Albritton (Westampton, NJ) blasted a single up the middle and then
Daniela Vidal (Clifton, NJ) drove her in with a double to left-center. Vidal and Albritton each went 1-for-2 in the opening round game.
