AMHERST, NY – Freshmen forwards,
Emma Martinetti (Saylorsburg, PA) and
Victoria Napolitano (Garwood, NJ) each scored their first collegiate goal during the Bears season opener on the road Thursday but it was not enough as Daemen College took a 5-2 decision at Karrer Field. Bloomfield's women's soccer team fell to, 0-1-0 to begin 2018 while the Wildcats improved to 1-0-0.
The Bears saw their opponents jump out front early in the third minute of play when senior goalkeeper,
Emira Sela (Staten Island, NY) missed a ball shot from inside the 18 yard line. Bloomfield found themselves in a 3-0 hole by the halftime break.
The Wildcats added another goal in the 45
thminute for a 4-0 advantage but Martinelli quickly responded at the 45:42 mark and netted Bloomfield's first goal of the young season. Napolitano's score came in the 80
thminute of play with the newcomer burying a ball in the back of Daemen's net for the final goal in the game.
Bloomfield will return home to prepare for a Labor Day Weekend showdown against Queens College on Sunday. The 1:00 pm home opener will be the first chance for the Bloomfield faithful to see the Bears at Foley Field.
