WATERBURY, C.T. - Sophomore guard,
Morgan Taylor (Paterson, N.J.) bested her career-high from last week with a 22 point effort and junior forward,
Iman Williams (Chesapeake, VA.) posted her first collegiate double-double with career-highs in points (17) and rebounds (13) to lift Bloomfield College women's basketball over the Eagles of Post University, 86-66 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action at the Drubner Center Wednesday evening. The win marked the Bears third in a row and improved their overall record to 5-3 on the year and 3-1 in conference play. The setback was the first loss for the Eagles in CACC battles (3-1) and dropped them to 4-5 overall.
Taylor and Williams led a Bears starting unit that saw each member finish with double-figures in the scoring column. With the dynamic duo at the top, Bloomfield saw sophomore Bear Athlete of the Week
Tianna Smith (Nanuet, N.Y.) pour in 16 points including 4-for-5 from beyond the arc followed by senior center,
Tierra Scott (Bear, D.E.) chipping in 15 points and 9 rebounds.
Ariel Wilson (Chesapeake, Va.) added in 13 points and 3 assists to round out the Fab 5 and the Bears even saw senior center,
Alisha Brown (Paterson, N.J.) score her first points of the season, netting 3 points to cap off the evening's scoring output.
Bloomfield shot just 35.0% from the field in the opening period but never trailed in the match, building as much as a twelve point margin (38-26) with 2:17 on the clock. Taylor shot just 1-for-8 in the first half, heading into the break with only 2 points, however the Bears were up 40-30 on the strength of holding Post University to a mere 28.0% from the field and forcing nine turnovers. Williams, Smith and Scott carried the bulk of the load in the half, netting 30 points combined for the Bears.
The second half belonged to Taylor who buried a 3-pointer when the Eagles made their strongest surge to cut the Bloomfield lead to eight (49-41) and followed that possession up with a conventional three point play after being fouled on a lay up in the paint to bring the advantage up to 55-41. Game-high scorer, Deaisia Acklin (Bronx, N.Y.) (23) tried to keep the Eagles in the contest but Post could not bring the deficit below the ten-point margin and the Bears soared down the stretch for the twenty point victory.
Next up the Bears will face East Region opponents when they welcome Merrimack College on Friday, December 19th for a 6:00pm showdown. On Sunday, December 21st Assumption College will enter the Den for a 1:00pm battle to close out Bloomfield's schedule for 2014. Both games can be seen LIVE by clicking
