Box Score 3477Rianna McNew.jpg" style="float:right" />Sparkhill, N.Y. - The women's soccer team took to the pitch today for the first time as the Bloomfield College Bears and dropped their season opener, 1-4 to Saint Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) in non-conference action. The Bears fall to 0-1 on the young season with first year Head Coach Christian Raigoza and look to rebound when they take the field against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival, Dominican College next Wednesday.

Bloomfield came out of the gates fast when Rianna McNew netted her first goal of the season on a breakaway just 2:28 into the contest. Sammy Bucknell assited on the goal and the Bears were off to a great start. STAC would respond quickly at the 5:29 mark, drawing even on a goal by Mae Comerford. The Spartans took the lead just 6 minutes later and never looked back sending Bloomfield down 1-3 at intermission. The Bears mustered six shots in the first half but only came away with McNew's lone goal.

Ultimately STAC out-shot the Bears 14-8 for the match and added a goal in the 69th minute to seal the contest. The Spartans move to 1-0 while Bloomfield moves forward to set their sites on a CACC battle on September 10, at 3:30pm in Orangeburg, N.Y.
