EASTON, MASS – On Day 2 of The Tip-Off Classic, Bloomfield College men's basketball team went toe-to-toe with host's, Stonehill College and came away with a, 91-86 non-conference victory. The Bears saw a 19-point first half from senior,
Nick Davidson (Lumberton, NJ) as he went a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line to help his team to 2-0 on the year.
For the second straight game, Keith Washington (Philadelphia, PA) led Bloomfield in scoring but put up a career-high, 27 points against the Skyhawks (0-2). The Bears captains came to play once again while with Davidson's 19, Marcus Fleming (Linden, NJ) added 16 points, 14 of which came in the 2
nd half and
Rakwan Kelly (Newark, NJ) had a game-high 11 rebounds. Junior, Kavione Green (Amityville, NY) had a stellar performance as he shot 5-of-7 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the stripe for 14 points.
The game was a see-saw battle from start to finish but Bloomfield secured the win from the line, going 90.5 percent from the charity stripe including a perfect 10-for-10 in the opening half. The Skyhawks focused on cooling down Davidson in the second period by forcing him into foul trouble but the Bears had too many weapons as Washington and Fleming soared to close the door on Stonehill down the stretch.
The Bears will head back to New Jersey to prepare for their home opener on Tuesday evening when the Bulldogs from Bowie State come to town. The non-conference battle is set for a 7:00 pm tip-off in front of the #BearsNation in The Den.
