Sparks, Md.-Sophomore Hannah McDermott (Guilford, Conn.), who netted three goals on the day, scored a free position tally 1:08 into overtime to lift the University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team to a 14-13 neutral site victory over the Jefferson University Rams on Wednesday afternoon. With the victory, Bridgeport is now 5-1 overall, and Jefferson remains winless at 0-4.
McDermott's game-winner came after the Rams tied the game with only three seconds to play in regulation.
Junior Julia Ruscio (St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada) led the UB offense with six goals on Wednesday to raise her team-high total to 25 on the season.
Classmate Shyla Murray (Brentwood, N.Y.) has a hat trick for the Purple Knights, and seniors Courtney Hylok (Muskegon, Mich.) plus Barbara Orsini (N. Babylon, N.Y.) added a single goal apiece for the winners.
In goal, sophomore Abbie Jones (Rising Sun. Md.) earned the win in goal for UB making eight saves after taking over between the pipes to begin the second half. Senior Cheyanne Gangel (Oakridge, N.J.) made six stops in the first half.
Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team returns to Knights Field to face Assumption College at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
