SPRINGFIELD, MASS – On Day 2 of the American International College (AIC) Holiday Classic the Bloomfield College men's basketball team secured a 90-76 victory in non-conference, regional action.
Keith Washington (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Bears past the Yellow Jackets with 22 points Sunday afternoon as the visitors improved to their record to 8-3 on the year while the hosts fell to 6-6 with the setback.
Bloomfield registered a better shooting performance on Day 2 of the Holiday Classic, going 29-of-62 from the field (46.8 percent). Senior tri-captains for the visitors all had solid performances with
Marcus Fleming (Linden, NJ) and
Nick Davidson (Lumberton, NJ) each recording 15 points and shooting over 50.0 percent from the floor.
Rakwan Kelly (Newark, NJ) scored seven total, which included his 1,000 career-point as a collegiate athlete.
The Bears maintained a 42-36 lead at the break despite AIC shooting 52.0 percent (13-of-25) from the field and a perfect, 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Washington netted 11 first half points and paced the visiting team's offense. Kelly surged in the 2
nd frame with six of his points and knocked in his 1,000
th on a free throw with 8:32 to play in the game. The Yellow Jackets climbed to within three (55-52) at the 12 minute mark but less than five minutes later the visitors advantage ballooned to 75-57 and the Bears cruised down the stretch.
After the AIC Holiday Classic split, Bloomfield will hibernate for two weeks until their New Years Eve conference match up with Felician University. The Bears welcome the Golden Falcons to 'The Den' for a 2:00 pm tip-off on Sunday, December 31
