SECAUCUS, N.J. (September 8, 2021) – Stonehill College emerged from a five-goal opening half to secure a 3-2 victory over Nyack College in non-conference men's soccer action at Laurel Hill Park this afternoon.

How it Happened

  • Freshman Iago Luiz De Sousa-Vieira netted a pair of goals for the second-straight match to spur Stonehill to a three-goal lead over the opening 35 minutes of play.
  • Sophomore Zach Davis  added the first goal of his collegiate career in the 32nd minute that sparked a flurry of four goals between the two teams in the final 15 minutes of the opening half.
  • Freshman Noah Brill sparked a comeback effort for Nyack with a goal and assist as the Warriors climbed back within 3-2 heading into the second half.
  • Neither team scored over the final 45 minutes, with sophomore Ryan Coutu finishing with four saves in his collegiate debut in the Stonehill goal.

    Postgrad Marco Roble registered three saves in goal for Nyack, while junior Erwin Bendl netted the Warriors second goal in the 43rd minute.

Noteworthy

  • De Sousa-Vieira opened the scoring in the 24th minute and then added a penalty kick in the 35th to put Stonehill up 3-0 less than 35 minutes into the match. It marks the second-straight match De Sousa-Vieira has potted a pair of goals after scoring twice, including a penalty, in Saturday's home win against Dominican (N.Y.) College.
  • Stonehill is off to a 2-1-0 start for the first time since 2016, when the Skyhawks won three of their first four matches.
