Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team hosted the Wilmington (Del.) University Wildcats on Saturday night in battle of two of the top teams in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference standings, and the Purple Knights and the Wildcats played to a 1-1 draw. With the tie, UB is now 8-3-2 overall and 6-1-1 in the CACC. Wilmington is now 7-2-4 overall and remains unbeaten in conference play at 6-0-2.
The visitors opened the scoring in the match with a tally in the twelfth minute, but the Purple Knights would come back to tie the match just over 15 minutes later, when freshman Maximilian Kissel (Wiesbaden, Germany) put home his team-high ninth goal of the year, when he found the back of the net after the Wildcats' goalkeeper mishandled a corner kick from UB's Lucas Sousa (So., Campinas, Brazil).
Neither team would score in the final 45 minutes of action, so the contest would end in a physical 1-1 deadlock, as the two sides combined for 31 fouls and were issued a total of seven yellow cards.
Wilmington outshot Bridgeport, 12-6, on the night, and the Purple Knights finished with a 6-3 edge in corners.
Bridgeport goalkeeper Clement Anet (Grad., Cosse le Vivien, France) made two spectacular saves in the second half to keep the score level.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team will travel up Route 8 to Waterbury, Conn. and face another one of the CACC's top teams in the Post University Eagles on Wednesday afternoon. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
