Waterbury, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team remained unbeaten in the early going of the 2019 season at 4-0, as the Purple Knights posted two wins at the Post University Invitational on Saturday topping the host Eagles in four sets (25-11, 22-25, 25-16, 25-9) and wrapping up the day with a straight sets, 25-21, 25-23, 25-21 victory over St. Anselm College.
Against Post, senior Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) led the Bridgeport offense with 11 kills and hit a blistering .556 in the match.
Sophomore setter Carly Killorin (Centennial, Colo.) had a total of 33 assists in the win over the Eagles, and junior Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) led the UB backline with a total of 11 digs in the match.
Sophomore Amanda Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) played well both on offense and defense in Saturday's opener registering seven kills and four total blocks (three solos).
In the win over St. Anselm, Keller led the UB offense crushing 12 kills with a .647 hitting percentage, and she was joined in double-digit kills by senior Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.), who finished with a double-double of 10 kills and 13 digs.
Carly Killorin continued her strong early season play with a double-double of her own, as she directed the UB offense with 35 assists and notched 13 digs.
Klein Johnson again led Bridgeport in digs with 14 in the win over the Hawks, and senior Makayla Maroney (Parker, Colo.) led the squad at the net with four total blocks.
It will be a short night for the Purple Knights as they are right back in action at the Post University Invitational on Sunday morning at 9:30 when they face Felician University, and they will close out action in Waterbury at 3:30 p.m. versus against Southern Connecticut State.
