Bloomfield Bears Rally to Top Bowie State Bulldogs 82-70

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Bloomfield College Bears spotted Bowie State men's basketball a 40-31 halftime lead and rallied to top the Bulldogs 82-70 on Tuesday evening.  The loss, Bowie State second in a row, dips the Bulldogs record to 1-2 on the early season.

Senior Omari George (Baltimore, Md.) recorded a team-high double-double of 22 points and a career-high 12 rebounds in the setback. Redshirt sophomore David Belle (Hyattsville, Md.) shipped in 12 points and sophomore Cameron Hayes (Upper Marlboro, Md.) added 11 points for the Bulldogs.

Bowie State opened the contest with a 5-0 run before Bloomfield put together a 9-4 run to pull even at 9-all at the 15:58 mark of the first quarter. The Bulldogs eventually pushed its lead to double-digits (32-22) late in the first half and carried a nine-point lead into intermission.

Over the first 20 minutes, the Bulldogs shot 45.9 percent from the field (17-of-37) while the host Bears made 11-of-31 first half field goals (35.5 percent). Bloomfield's 8-of-14 first half free throws is what kept the home team close.

The second half was a different story as Bloomfield as the Bears opened with a 14-6 run to trim the Bowie State lead down to 48-45 at the 13:14 mark. The Bulldogs struggles continued while the Bears' confidence continued to grow. Bloomfield's Nick Davidson hit a jumper two minutes later to create the games third tie of the night and gained its first lead of 55-53 following a Keith Washington layup. The Bears held the Bulldogs scoreless over the next three minutes and really took control and a 65-55 advantage with 7:48 remaining in the game.

Bloomfield's lead grew to a game-high 16 points very late in the game as the Bears were well on their way to its third straight win of the year.

Bloomfield (3-0) was paced by Davidson's 25 points that went along with five rebounds while teammate Rakwan Kelly notched a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds. Marcus Fleming tallied 14 points in the win. The Bears won the battle on the glass, out-rebounding the Bulldogs 44-39 and held advantages in points in the paint (40-34) and points off turnovers (23-10). Bloomfield improved its field goal shooting in the second half, hitting at a 50 percent clip on 19-of-38 shooting from the field.

The Bulldogs will return to action Saturday (November 18th), traveling to Alderson Braoddus University for a 2 p.m. non-conference contest.
