Vargas earned his third win of the season with 7.2 innings of work

BOCA RATON, Florida (March 9, 2020) – The Stonehill College baseball team blanked Caldwell University, 5-0, for their first shutout of the season Monday afternoon in Boca Raton, Florida.

Key Moments:

  • Caldwell threatened in the top of the first inning putting Dhillon Barbetti on with a walk and Frank Lehmann singled. The runners moved over on a fielder's choice, as Vargas retired the side with a strikeouts and a fly out.
  • In the bottom of the second with two outs and runners on first and third, Kiely tripled scoring both Noah Lucier and Matt Donlan for a 2-0 advantage. Farragher then tallied his second double of the season driving home Kiley from third extending their lead to three, 3-0.
  • Swanholm connected for his second double of the season with one out. Before he was thrown out at second, Rob Duarte and Wilde scored to add two runs to their lead, 5-0.
  • Caldwell saw a base runner in each of the remaining innings except for the fourth, as the Skyhawks fended off the Cougars, recording their first shutout of the season and first since May 2, 2019 when Stonehill shut out Saint Anselm, 8-0.
