Clermont, Fla.-Pitching was the name of the game on Saturday for the UB softball team, as the Purple Knights split two game on day three of their Spring Trip to Florida, blanking Philadelphia University, 2-0, and falling to West Liberty University, 2-1. With the split, Bridgeport is now 3-3 on the young 2016 season.
In the win over Philadelphia U., junior Alyssa Bua (Cornwall, N.Y.) was masterful in the pitching circle firing a complete game shutout.
Against West Liberty, sophomore Amanda Staheli (Pecatonica, Ill.) was the hard-luck loser throwing a complete game in which she allowed only one earned run.
The UB softball team will now take Sunday off, and the team returns to the diamond in the Sunshine State on Monday facing Bentley and Bemidji State.
