MILLER'S NO-HITTER KEYS BLOOMFIELD'S SWEEP OVER CHESTNUT HILL

BLOOMFIELD, NJ - Stephanie Miller hurled her second career no-hitter and Kirsten Wilson struck out 17 girls in game one as Bloomfield swept Chestnut Hill to move to 5-1 in CACC play.  The Bears won game one 5-1 and game two 7-0.

The Bears now have 13 wins, which is currently the highest total in the East Region.

The Bears jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Greta Coleman led off the frame with a hit.  She was bunted to second by Melissa Yepez and advanced to third on an error.  She came around to score on an RBI single to right by Aubrey Orr.

Bloomfield (13-7, 5-1 CACC) added two more runs in the bottom of the third on a two-run homer by Coleman, her CACC-leading fifth of the season, and scored their fourth run the following inning.  Lauren Bueno started a two-out rally with a single and Janese Timmons followed with a walk.  Wilson then delivered Bueno with a single to right to extend Bloomfield's lead to 4-0.

Chestnut Hill finally got to Wilson in the fifth with an RBI double, but Bloomfield got the run back in the bottom of the sixth.

Orr led of the sixth with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch.  She then scored on a sacrifice fly by Timmons to give BC their fifth and final run.

Coming off a no-hitter against Nyack, Wilson (8-2) was dominant once again.  She pitched a complete game, allowing just three hits while striking out 17.  This was Wilson's fifth game of the season with 14 or more strikeouts and the sixth time she's hurled a complete game with three hits or less allowed.

Bloomfield had seven hits in the game with Coleman leading the way.  The junior went 2-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs.  Orr was 2-3 with a run and RBI as well.

"I was happy we swung the bats well today," said head coach Rocco Constantino.  "We hadn't been getting clutch hits to support our pitchers, but today we did that a lot better.  Once again, Kirsten was totally dominant and it was good we gave her some breathing room."

In game two, the story was Miller, who was masterful from the start.  The sophomore lefty only allowed one ball out of the infield (a sixth inning fly out to left) as she threw the second no-hitter of her career.  Miller had previously no-hit Nyack as a freshman.

Bloomfield gave Miller (5-5) all the support she would need in the first inning as they struck for five runs off of Chestnut Hill starter Courtney Dayter.

Orr and Wilson started the rally with back-to-back one-out singles and Coleman followed with a walk to load the bases.  Yepez then drove home the first run with an RBI single as the bases remained loaded for Shannon Brennan.

Brennan then drove a double to left center to plate Wilson and Coleman to give Bloomfield a quick 3-0 lead.  Annette Daw then executed a perfect suicide squeeze to score Yepez, who made a nice slide into home as the Bears opened a 4-0 lead.  Timmons then drove home Brennan with a fielder's choice to give Bloomfield their fifth run of the inning.

The only other scoring the Bears did came in the bottom of the sixth as Bueno stroked a two-run double down the left field line to score Timmons and Angela Hauser to give Bloomfield their sixth and seventh runs.

Miller navigated the seventh inning without harm, sealing the no-hitter by striking out the final batter of the game looking on a 3-2 pitch.  It was her ninth strikeout of the afternoon.

Bloomfield had eight hits in game two with Orr recording her second consecutive two-hit game.  Brennan went 2-3 with two RBIs as well.

"Stephanie pitched tremendously and the coaches knew she had her great stuff from the start," said Constantino.  "It took about two batters before [assistant coach] Ashton said that Stephanie was on today.  She couldn't have been more right.  I'm glad we were finally able to support her because she's been pitching in bad luck recently."

The Bears are off tomorrow before they resume play Tuesday with a road doubleheader at Felician.  Game time is set for 3pm.
