LAKEWOOD, NJ – The Bloomfield College softball team saw their 2022 season come to an end after falling, 5-3 against Dominican College in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tournament on Thursday. The elimination game left the #7 seeded Bears with an overall record of 13-30 for the year while the 6
th seeded Chargers improved to 20-23 and advanced after the first day of post-season play.
Bloomfield gave up two homeruns in the bottom half of the 1
st inning and fell behind, 3-0 to start the game.
Danielle Walters (Richboro, PA) was in the circle for a complete game for the Bears and struck-out seven batters while walking only three. Walters settled in after the 1
st inning and kept Dominican off the scoreboard for the next three.
Bloomfield mounted their comeback in the top of the fifth, scratching across two runs; first off a single up-the-middle by
Sydney Huse (El Cajon, CA) that scored Walters. Then
Taylor Galyean (Cottonwood, CA), who was pinch hitting in a bases-loaded situation, was hit by a pitch that scored
Daniela Vidal (Clifton, NJ) who had reached on an error by the Chargers 2
nd baseman.
Dominican belted a solo homerun in the bottom half of the fifth to claim a 4-2 advantage but the #7 seed came back in the top of the 6
th with a run on a ball thrown away at first by the pitcher on a sac bunt laid down by Walters.
Sierra Albritton (Westampton, NJ) came all the way home to score from first on the errand throw and Bloomfield had new life. The Bears had bases loaded with no one out in the 6
th and couldn't capitalize as the Chargers closed the door on the rally and Bloomfield's season.
Freshman, Vidal finished the season leading the team in hitting with 41 hits, 17 RBI, 6 doubles, 3 triples and a .313 batting average. She was second in stolen bases with 10, only behind the leader, Walters who swiped 11 bases in 14 attempts during 2022. Walters was 2
nd on the squad with 32 hits and a .294 batting average. In the circle, Galyean led the way for the Bears for the season with a 3.78 E.R.A. and a career-best 127 strikeouts. She moved her career strikeout total to 390.
