Eagles hold off baseball
SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College baseball team battled to an 8-5 defeat against Post University on Wednesday, April 26.
AIC is now 18-19 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets led off the bottom of the first with a Brendan Edvardsen double. He took third on a wild pitch and then scored when Michael Cruz hit a grounder to second base.
The lead lasted until the third when the Eagles notched back-to-back doubles; the damage might have been greater if Vaughn O'Leart had not picked a batter off earlier in the inning.
The game remained tied until the sixth when the Eagles led off with a triple. A strikeout and a flyout put a run across, but the Eagles were not finished, as they added two singles and two doubles to take a 5-1 edge. In the seventh, they added two more.
On the opposite side of the stretch, AIC bounced back. The Yellow Jackets loaded the bases with two outs on three walks, and Jackson Haker also drew ball four, pushing Edvardsen home. Josh Frometa followed with a two-run single to score Kiernan Caffrey and Cruz; Tyler Ziemak then singled, driving Haker home.
Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets, the Eagles shut the door from there, adding a run with two outs in the ninth for the 8-5 final.
AIC opens its final Northeast-10 Conference home series on Friday, April 28 against Assumption University.
