BEARS STRONG SECOND HALF FUELS 4-1 DECISION OVER CHESTNUT HILL

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Bears became winners of 7-out of their last-9 contests Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 victory over the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory pushed Bloomfield to second place in league play with a 5-2-1 mark and 7-3-2 overall record while the Griffins fell to 4-5-2 overall and 3-3-2 in conference.

Junior forward Paulo Claudio (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was credited for the first score of the game after a deflection off a Chestnut Hill defender gave the home team a 1-0 advantage with less than two minutes played. The Griffins found the equalizer goal in the 30th minute as Nils Fussen (Aachen, Germany) netted a ball off a corner kick past Wilson Cisneros (Bronx, N.Y.) to even the match 1-1. Bloomfield finished out the first half with an 8-3 edge in shots but the score remained tied heading into the break.

The second half proved to be all Bears as the home team poured in three unanswered goals beginning with Claudio finding the back of the net in the 52nd minute with a shot from 20 yards out after a beautiful feed from sophomore midfielder, Tevin Blake (Savannah la Mar, Jamaica). Freshman Kevin Cubero (Sarchi, Costa Rica) took advantage of his starting opportunity by scoring his first goal of the season with 55:20 showing on the clock. Claudio, ranked fourth in the nation in shots on goal, added his CACC leading 12th goal in the 89th minute to cap off the stellar 4-1 win over the Griffins.

Cisneros (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded four saves on the afternoon to earn his sixth win of the year (6-1-2) while Chestnut Hill's keeper made four saves as well during the defeat. Bloomfield finished the game with an 18-7 advantage in shots and also a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Bears will now rest a few days before taking a short ride to face crosstown rival, Caldwell University. The Wednesday afternoon match is set to begin at 3:00 pm in Caldwell.
