BEARS SWEEP CHARGERS ON SENIOR DAY TO END REGULAR SEASON

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Bloomfield College volleyball team sent their two seniors, Melissa Yepez (Paramount, Calif.) and Diannmarie Rivera (Trujillo Alto, P.R.) out in style with a 3-0 victory over Dominican College Saturday afternoon. The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win improved the Bears to their best regular season finish since joining the NCAA Division II at 22-5 overall and 15-5 in league play. The Chargers fell to 6-25 to conclude 2015 and 6-13 in conference action.

Rivera recorded 10 digs and four kills in the victory. Yepez added four digs and a service ace from her defensive specialist position.

Junior setter Edmarie Freytes (San Juan, P.R.) tallied 18 assists, marking her 27th time this season reaching double digit assists. Freytes also contributed four services aces for the Bears. Jacquelyn Madlock (Alto Loma, Calif.) had eleven assists during the match while Valerie Bemudez (San Juan, P.R.) chipped in nine kills and five digs.

Bloomfield raced out to a 13-2 advantage to open up the first set. The Chargers answered back with four straight points but the Bears eventually closed out the set, 25-15 to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Set 2 was more competitive even though the Bloomfield offensive exploded, 6-1 out of the gate. Dominican climbed all the way back to within one (23-22) but the Bears shut the door, 25-23 to double their lead going into the third set.

Set 3 saw the Bloomfield offense continue to dominate, jumping out 4-0 before ballooning their lead to take the match with a 25-10 victory.

Both seniors were honored in a ceremony before the match, in which families, friends and teammates shared gifts and hugs for the Bloomfield College Volleyball Class of 2015.

With a historic regular season now behind them, the Bears will look to the CACC Tournament quarterfinal round next Tuesday, November 17.  Bloomfield has locked up the #2 seed in the CACC North Division and will host a playoff game at the Bloomfield College Gym.
