Lightning Strike Twice in Opening 16 Minutes En Route to First Victory of Season

WILMINGTON, Del.
– Sophomore forward Rerom Delys (Vila Velha, Brazil) and freshman forward Fernando Sanchez (Madrid, Spain) each scored a goal in the first half as Goldey-Beacom College (1-1-0) earned its first win of the season, a 2-0 victory over Washington Adventist University (1-1-0) at Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field on Sunday afternoon.

Delys gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute when he converted a corner kick from Sanchez. Just over six minutes later, Sanchez converted a pass from Delys to score his second goal in as many matches for a 2-0 Lightning edge.

From there, freshman goalkeeper Marcus Arrvidsson (Taby, Sweden) and the Lightning defense held the Shock to just five shots en route to the shutout victory.

Post-Game Quotes: Goldey-Beacom Coach Ryan Dixon
"I was very pleased with how our guys played today. We possessed the ball and told them exactly what we wanted from them. We returned to the way we played during the preseason and it was very good for us."

"Today's weather was beautiful and with the depth we have on the bench, we were able to recover from yesterday's tough game. We are a young team and we have been lucky to pick up any injuries."
