BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE SOFTBALL DROPS 2 OF 3 ON THIRD DAY OF SPRING TRAINING

TITUSVILLE, FL - The Bloomfield College softball team dropped two of three games in a triple header on the third day of their Spring Training trip in Florida. The Bears split with Waldorf College and then dropped a single game against St. Mary of the Woods.

In the first game, Bloomfield (5-2) fell behind 2-0 on an unearned run in the first inning and a solo home run in the third. However, the Bears tied the game in the bottom of the third. Greta Coleman started the rally with a one-out single. Kirsten Wilson then doubled home Coleman and Lauren Bueno singled home Wilson to tie the game.

The game stayed tied until the fifth when Kelly Stites led off the inning with bunt single, Coleman followed with a single of her own and Janese Timmons followed with a bunt hit as well. Wilson then delivered the big hit with a line drive grand slam to stake Bloomfield to a 6-2 lead.

Coleman added a solo homer in the sixth to give the Bears their decisive margin.

Meanwhile, Wilson (3-0) continued to dominate the competition in the circle. The sophomore righty allowed just three hits while striking out 16.

Wilson and Coleman led the way for the Bears offensively. Coleman was 3-4 with a home run, RBI and three runs scored while Wilson was 2-3 with a homer, double and 5 RBIs. Timmons was 2-4 with a run and stolen base as well.

In game two, sophomore Stephanie Miller pitched tremendously well, but received little help on offense or defense from the Bears. Miller allowed two unearned runs in the first and another unearned run in the third and Bloomfield was never able to mount a serious offensive threat. The Bears dropped game two to Waldorf, 3-1.

Bloomfield plated their only run of the game in the first when Timmons reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and eventually scored on a wild pitch. The Bears mustered just three hits in the game, singles by Coleman, Wilson and Bueno.

The Bears will be back in action for their second consecutive triple header tomorrow starting at 1pm.

They will take on Florida power Ave Maria in a single game then face off against Waynesburg University in a doubleheader.
