BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year
Tianna Smith (Spring Valley, N.Y.) led all scorers with 17 points and senior center
Chyna Golden (Neptune, N.J.) notched a double-double as the top-seeded Bloomfield College women's basketball team defeated fourth-seeded Chestnut Hill College 64-48 in the Quarterfinals of the CACC Tournament Saturday, Feb. 27.
Earning the Tournament's overall No. 1 seed as the CACC North Division champions and hosting the opening round matchup against the Griffins, the Bears (23-6) took control of the contest in the final minutes of the opening quarter, notching six points in the final 1:44 including the final basket of the period to take an 18-12 lead. Bloomfield would add to the lead in the second quarter, forcing 10 first-half turnovers by Chestnut Hill (12-15) to take a 31-23 lead into the intermission.
The Bears would pull away over the final two quarters, holding the Griffins to just 11-35 shooting from the field and 25 total points in the final 20 minutes of play. Smith would find her shooting stroke in the second half, going 6-9 from the field to notch 13 points and help the home team cruise to the 16-point victory.
Golden would post 13 points, 11 rebounds and a game-high three blocks in the victory, joining Smith as one of four Bears to reach double figures in scoring. Senior guard
Ariel Wilson, (Chesapeak, Va.) totaled 11 points, eight rebounds and two steals, with fellow senior
Iman Williams (Shreveport, La.) came off the bench to notch 10 points and five rebounds in the win.
For Chestnut Hill, Caity Kuhnen (East Brunswick, N.J.) and Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) each finished with 12 points, while Lauren Milligan (South Hampton, England) finished with 10 points in the loss.
Bloomfield advances to the CACC Semifinals for the third consecutive under head coach and 2015-2016 CACC Coach of the Year
David Caputo, looking to capture the program's second conference title and second NCAA Tournament appearance in his tenure. The Bears will face South Division second seed Holy Family University in the Semis on Friday, March 4 at Noon at host institution Dominican College.
