BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - Senior outfielder
Lauren Bueno (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) hit a solo homerun in game two that helped propel the softball team to a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) split with Post University Wednesday afternoon at Clarks Pond South. Bloomfield dropped game one, 3-0 but soared to a 5-1 victory over the Eagles in the second game.
After the double-dip both teams sat at 9-12 overall for the season as Post moved to 3-2 in CACC action and the Bears went to 3-5 in league play.
In game one junior right-hander
Kirsten Wilson (Beaver Falls, P.A.) held Post without a hit across the first three innings, striking out four batters during the stretch. The Eagles finally broke thru in the fifth with two outs as a single to center field put the visitors up 2-0.
Post tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh with the pitchers duel in full swing as the two league foes aces battled for their 7
th win of the season. The Bears offense sputtered as
Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) tossed a five-hit shutout for the Eagles and struck out seven to pick up her seventh win of the year. Wilson (6-4) finished the day with seven strikeouts of her own and surrendered seven hits and three walks on the afternoon.
In game two Bloomfield wasted very little time getting on the board and scored three in the bottom of the second inning. Junior transfer
Faith Apolskis (Soquel, Calif.) led off the inning with a double to center and advanced to third on a ground ball. Senior outfielder,
Veronica Cobos (Torrance, Calif.) drew a walk with two outs and collided with the Eagles shortstop on a grounder by
Gabby Citriniti (Corning, N.Y.) which scored Apolskis. Junior
Mykayla Moody (Los Lunas, N.M.) belted her first double of the season that scored Cobos before
Aubrey Orr (Gallup, N.M) lined a single up the middle that plated Citriniti to climb ahead 3-0.
Post pushed across a run in the fourth off of Citriniti (2-1) who got the start on the mound and scattered four hits, two strikeouts and a walk to secure her second win of the year. Junior
Stephanie Miller (Temecula, Calif.) came on in relief and held the Eagles scoreless the rest of the way with a hit and three strikeouts.
Bueno's towering shot to left field led-off the sixth inning. Cobos followed that with a double to right and eventually scored on another Orr single, this time to centerfield for the, 5-1 decision.
Bloomfield will now rest up for the Easter break before returning to action on Monday, Mar 28 to closeout their ten-game home stand. The Mavericks of Mercy College visit Clarks Pond for a non-conference doubleheader with the first pitch scheduled for 2:30 pm.
