LAFAYETTE HILL – Junior midfielder Nicole Miller and freshman attack Lauren Nunes both scored three goals as East Stroudsburg University picked up its first women's lacrosse win of the season, outlasting Chestnut Hill for a 12-9 non-conference win on Thursday afternoon.

The Warriors (1-4) overcame a slow start to score the final three goals of the first half in a span of 2:23 – by Nunes, freshman midfielder Kaitlynn Wiltraut and senior attack Sarah Ginn – for a 3-2 lead at halftime.

ESU used a four-goal run in a three-minute stretch midway through the second half to regain the lead, and another spurt late in the contest to seal its first win under first-year head coach Aaron Jaffe.

Ginn and Wiltraut scored two goals each and junior midfielder Samantha Kochey and sophomore attack Emily Powell also scored for the Warriors.

Senior Amanda Simms had 13 saves in goal for ESU, which held a 33-26 advantage in shots.

Brianne Timony scored four goals for Chestnut Hill (2-6) and gave her team a 5-4 lead with 21:25 left. ESU scored the next four – from Miller, Powell and two by Nunes – to open an 8-5 lead with just under 18 minutes left.

After Chestnut Hill got within 9-8 at the 10-minute mark, Miller scored twice to keep the Warriors in front and Kochey scored with 5:05 left to make it 12-8. Chestnut Hill scored the game's final goal with 45 seconds left.

ESU, which dropped its PSAC opener at Kutztown (9-6) on Tuesday, returns to conference action this weekend with a trip to Gannon on Saturday.
