CLAUDIO LEADS BEARS PAST FELICIAN, 6-1 IN CACC VICTORY

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Bloomfield College scored five times in the second period after a 1-1 halftime tie en route to a 6-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over visiting Felician College Wednesday evening under the lights of Foley Field.  The Bears upped their record to 2-0 in CACC action and 2-2-1 overall, while the Golden Falcons slipped to 0-2 in conference play and 1-3 overall on the season.

Paulo Claudio (San Paulo, Brazil) had a breakout performance with four goals, while senior Shaquille Brown (Springfield, St. Thomas) recorded a goal and an assist.  Mauricio Torrelaba (San Paulo, Brazil) also recorded a single goal on the night.

Felician opened up the scoring during the 34th minute of play as Jorge Pelayo (Clifton, N.J.) broke down the right side for a goal on the Golden Falcons first offer at the Bears keeper, Wilson Cisneros (Bronx, N.Y.) of the game. Claudio responded quickly in the 35th minute finishing a through ball to knot the score at 1-1 for his third goal of the season. The teams would finish the half tied as the Bloomfield offense kept Felician under pressure with 12 shots in the frame.

Torrelaba made it 2-1 at the 54:34 mark of the second period when he finished a ball served in the box by Brown. Claudio scored back-to-back goals in the 62nd and 71st minutes for his fourth and fifth goals of the season to make it 4-1. Brown knocked home a header off a Claudio corner kick in the 73rd minute as the Bloomfield defender crept up to get in on the action. Claudio finished off the night with his sixth goal of the season and the Bears sixth unanswered score in the 79th minute.

Cisneros recorded only one save for the game as he faced just three shots from the Golden Falcons all night. Felician's backstop, John Burns (Saddle Brook, N.J.) saved 11 shots, as the Bloomfield attack was relentless for the match. The Bears outshot the Golden Falcons 28-3 and held a 13-1 edge in corner kicks.
