WEST, ISLIP, N.Y. - The Bloomfield College men's tennis team captured their first victory of the 2015 season and improved to 1-2 on the year with a 9-0 win over the Golden Lions of Dowling in a match played at St John's the Baptist High School in West Islip on Friday afternoon. For just the second time in program history, the Bears shutout their opponents en route to the non-conference victory.
Bloomfield opened play by winning all three doubles flights over the Golden Lions. The first double team of
Vadim Kustov and
Thulani Hove triumphed 8-0. The pairing of
Ville Heikkilae and
Nikola Seles dropped just two matches at second doubles, prevailing 8-2. The final tandem of
Shimarhi Shuler and Adam Carte didn't drop a single game on their way to an 8-0 win.
The Bears swept the singles competitions as well. Kustov won at first singles 8-4. Hove won at second singles, 8-0. The third singles player, Heikkilae, came out on top also without dropping a set, 8-0. Shuler secured an 8-2 victory at fourth singles. Seles and Carter triumphed 8-0 each in the fifth and sixth singles respectively.
The Bloomfield College men's tennis team looks to continue their winning ways with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference test Saturday evening at home against USciences. The Bears welcome the Devils to the Tiger Tennis and Fitness Club in West Caldwell where the first serve is slated for 6:00 PM.
