PHILADELPHIA, Pa – The women's basketball team saw their 8-game winning streak snapped on the road as they fell, 68-56 Saturday against the nationally ranked Jefferson Rams. The afternoon showdown at the Gallagher Center dropped the Bears to 2
nd place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division with a 13-3 mark and a 13-10 overall record. The 25
th ranked Rams by D2SIDA improved to 22-3 on the year with a 14-2 league record.
Bloomfield opened up the game a little sluggish on the offensive end and the Rams took advantage, going up 19-12 in the first quarter. The home team never trailed in the contest and saw Rachel Day set Jefferson's all-time three-point record on the opening shot of the game. The Bears put up a better effort in the 2
nd quarter, outscoring the Rams, 15-10 to pull within two heading into the half-time break.
Kiamsha Bynes (Piscataway, NJ) led the visiting squad after two quarters with 7 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field.
Zhane Robinson (Newark, NJ),
Bobbi Floyd (Las Vegas, NV) and
Aanise Barnes (Newark, NJ) all had 4 points each heading into intermission.
The 3
rd frame proved to be the difference of the game as Jefferson extended their lead to eleven with a 20-11 quarter. Bloomfield battled basket-for-basket in the fourth quarter but it was to no avail with the Rams in the driver's seat down the stretch. Bynes finished the afternoon with 13 points while Barnes and Robinson ended with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Bloomfield will try to get back on the winning track when they host the University of New Haven at The Den. The Chargers are set to tip-off with Bears at 7:00 pm in a non-conference match up.
