BLOOMFIELD, NJ – The Bloomfield College women's basketball saw their home opener spoiled by visiting NYIT at 'The Den' Wednesday night in a game dubbed, 'The Battle of the Bears'. Bloomfield dropped the non-conference match up, 75-72 as the visitors handed the home team their third consecutive loss to start the 2017-18 campaign.
Hall of Fame Head Coach
Vanessa Watson made her debut on the sidelines in Essex County for the first time in three years and saw her Bears fall behind at the halftime break, 40-39. Junior
Deja McKenzie (Baltimore, MD) poured in 16 points during the first two quarters as the Bloomfield forward went 8-of-13 from the floor. McKenzie finished the night with a career-high 27 points but it was not enough with NYIT outlasting Bloomfield down the stretch.
The home team saw seniors,
Dayanni Cochran (Las Vegas, NV) and
Bobbi Floyd (Las Vegas, NV) in double-figures as the twin towers posted 11 and 13 points respectively.
Ilysia Lewis (Baltimore, MD) turned in a near double-double performace with 8 points and 9 rebounds.
Watson and the Bears will have a week off to prepare for their next non-conference battle when they travel up to Flushing, NY to face Queens College. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day match up has been pushed up to a 3:30 pm start and Live Stats will be available.
