BC SOFTBALL SWEEPS WAYNESBURG, MOVES TO 8-2 ON THE SEASON

Titusville, FL - The Bloomfield College softball team swept Waynesburg University 9-6 and 6-5 to complete a triple-header sweep on day four of their Spring Training trip. Stephanie Miller picked up the win in game one while Kirsten Wilson picked up the win in game two in relief of Kelly Stites.

In game one, Bloomfield (8-2) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second when they sent 11 batters to the plate.

Annette Daw got the rally started with a walk and Janese Timmons followed with a single. Melissa Yepez drove them both home with a double to give BC an early lead. Greta Coleman then reached on an error to put runners at the corners and Stites singled to load the bases.

Wilson then stroked a single to drive home Yepez and Coleman to make the score 4-0. After a walk to Lauren Bueno, the runners advanced on a wild pitch. Brennane then delivered Miller with a gorundout and Bueno scored on a wild pitch.

Bloomfield's bats went cold from there though and Waynesbug crept back in the game.

They were able to push across a run in the fourth to make the score 6-1 before Bloomfield plated three in the bottom of the inning to make it 9-1.

Daw had an RBI single and Yepez hit her second two-run double of the game.

What looked to be a comfortable lead turned into anxious moments, as a tough Waynesburg squad scored two in the sixth and three in the seventh to inch closer.

However, head coach Rocco Constantino brought in Wilson who notched her second save of the season, striking out the only two batters she faced in the seventh.

Miller (3-2) went the first 6 1/3 innings to pick up her third win of the season.

The Bears had 12 hits in the game with Yepez leading the way. The junior went 3-4 with two doubles, two runs and four RBIs. Wilson was also 3-5 on the game.

In game two, Bloomfield fell behind 4-0 going into the bottom of the third. Waynesburg scored two in the first and two in the third to take a commanding early lead. The Bears were in danger of letting the game get completely out of hand as Waynesburg had the bases loaded with one out.

However, Aubrey Orr and Bayley Legarreta turned a 5-2-3 double play to help Stites escape further damage.

Bloomfield's bats then woke up as they pushed across their only six runs of the game in the third.

Timmons led off the inning with a single and then Greta Coleman blasted her second homer of the week over the centerfield fence. Daw and Yepez then laced singles up the middle and Wilson followed with a walk to load the bases.

Orr then hit an RBI single through the left side and Brennan followed with a two-run single to make the score 5-0. Stites then drove home what would be the decisive run with a single to right center.

Bloomfield brought on Wilson for the third straight game to preserve the lead and she delivered once again.

The sophomore righty pitched hitless ball over the final four innings. She allowed one run on a delayed steal of home, but Waynesburg did not threaten from there. Wilson had eight strikeouts over the final four innings. Stites pitched well over the first three innings and picked up a no-decision.

On the day, Wilson pitched 15 2/3 innings and recorded 24 strikeouts while allowing only five hits.

Bloomfied had 10 hits in the game. Coleman went 2-3 with a walk and a home run. Yepez was 2-4 while Orr and Stites each went 2-3.

The Bears are back in action at 9am tomorrow morning to take on St. Mary of the Woods and Ave Maria in their final two games of the trip.
