Outstanding Pitching Helps Bentley Extend Win Streak to 5

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Senior Elisa Pereira (Plainville, Mass./King Philip Reg. HS) pitched a five-hit shutout against Dominican College (N.Y.) and freshman Dahlia Fink (Sherman Oaks, Calif./Notre Dame HS) followed with a two-hitter against St. Thomas Aquinas College, helping the Bentley University softball team extend its winning streak to five games.

The Falcons (8-6) blanked Dominican, 6-0, and downed STAC, 9-1, in six innings.

Pereira struck out six while winning for the fourth time this season. She allowed just one runner to reach third and that came with two outs in the seventh.

Graduate third baseman Kaileen Cain (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge HS) picked up her 15th and 16th RBI of the season with a two-run double in the fourth inning. She also scored in the sixth as Bentley scored twice to extend its lead to 4-0.

Both Cain and senior right fielder Ella Hillier (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS) had two hits for the Falcons.

Bentley scored in five of the six innings against St. Thomas Aquinas, beginning with a leadoff home run by freshman left fielder Jordan Krause (San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro HS) in the first. It was the third homer of the season for Krause, who is batting a sizzling .458 through 14 games.

The Falcons brought an end to the game by scoring four times in the sixth, invoking the eight-run rule, and again Krause was involved, this time with a two-run double to center.

Krause finished four-of-four with three RBI and two runs scored. Junior first baseman Kaylee Mankins (North Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan HS) had two hits and Cain scored twice.

Fink, who had one walk and one strikeout, lost her shutout bid in the top of the sixth inning.

Bentley will wrap up the Florida portion of the schedule Friday with a doubleheader against Molloy, with the first pitch set for 9:15 am.
