DOMINICAN COLLEGE’S CORY QUIMBY HONORED AS CACC’S STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH FOR NOVEMBER

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (December 14, 2012) – Dominican College men’s basketball standout Cory Quimby - Student-Athlete of the Month - November Cory Quimby (Middletown, N.Y.) has been named as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Student-Athlete of the Month for November 2012, announced Commissioner Dan Mara Friday.

Quimby, a native of Middletown, N.Y., was chosen to repeat as a team captain for Dominican’s 2012/13 season.  The 6’6 criminal justice major scored 37 points and pulled in 36 rebounds in Dominican’s three games for the month of November to help his team jump out to a 2-1 start. On November 19, Cory was a CACC Player of the Week Honorable Mention selection.

Last season Quimby finished the year ranked second nationally in double-doubles and rebounds per game.  He was also named as the CACC Co-Player of the Year after earning All-CACC First Team honors as well as All-Met First Team and Daktronics East All-Region Second Team accolades.  Cory was also selected as an ECAC All-Star for the 2011/12 season.

Cory is currently serves as the President of Dominican College’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and also serves as a peer mentor for the College. As a member of the SAAC, Quimby has been involved with community service activities such as: Toys for Tots, Make a Wish Foundation, Relay for Life, Light the Night Walk, Adopt-a-Family Programs and Keep Rockland Beautiful.

In the classroom Cory holds a 3.25 grade point average (gpa) while majoring in Criminal Justice.  He was previously named as the 2012 recipient of the Dominic Guzman Award which is presented to a Dominican Student-Athlete with a gpa of 3.0 or higher, is an upper-classman, exhibits personal and social maturity and serves the overall campus community.

The CACC Student-Athlete of the Month is awarded from September through May to select student-athletes who excel in athletics, the classroom and the community.
